Looking for a Temp Job with Benefits? Find Out What the Advance Group Can Offer You!

Many candidates assume that you can’t find a fantastic temp job that also comes with a robust benefits package. However, at The Advance Group, that isn’t the case. Our employee benefits program ensures that anyone can access critical benefits, including those working in temporary positions. If you’re wondering what The Advance Group can offer you, here is an overview of the benefits we make available.

Medical and Dental

For many professionals, medical and dental coverage is considered essential. At The Advance Group, we want to ensure that our employees have access to what they need, including comprehensive coverage that helps them stay healthy.

You can become eligible for medical and dental benefits by working through The Advance Group. Eligibility beings on the first of the month following 60 days on assignment, allowing you to get critical coverage even if you’re working in a temporary job.

Additionally, The Advance Group covers 72 percent of the annual cost. That means employees pay less out of pocket while getting the protection they need.

Holiday and Vacation Pay

Paid time off gives employees a chance to rest and rejuvenate without worrying about their paychecks. At The Advance Group, any employee who works in temp jobs can become eligible for holiday and vacation pay.

After working 2,000 hours, employees get access to paid time off in vacation and holiday pay. Whether the 2,000 hours come from a single assignment or several doesn’t make a difference. Once that target is hit, a worker is eligible.

Retirement with Employer Match

Being able to save for retirement is a priority for many professionals. At The Advance Group, we try to make it as easy as possible. After one year of employment and 1,000 hours, employees can participate in a 401(k) plan. Plus, they’re eligible for a 4 percent employer match, allowing them to save more with greater ease.

As with the vacation and holiday pay, it doesn’t matter if an employee hits the one-year and 1,000-hour targets through one assignment or several. Since that’s the case, those working in several temp jobs during the year can qualify.

Referral, Attendance, and Performance Bonuses

At The Advance Group, we believe that employees should be rewarded for exceeding expectations. We offer excellent attendance and performance bonuses to many workers, ensuring they’re recognized for their reliability and dedication to their roles.

However, The Advance Group also goes further. If you refer a job seeker, you can become eligible for a referral bonus once they land an assignment and complete a minimum number of hours. Additionally, we offer a range of other incentives, ensuring our employees get more from their temporary jobs.

Ultimately, The Advance Group understands that benefits are essential when seeking new opportunities. If you’re looking for a temp position that gives you more than a paycheck, the team at The Advance Group wants to hear from you. Contact us today.

These Employee Metrics Are Worth Measuring

Today, companies of all sizes are facing challenges. Hiring difficulties mean many businesses are operating without all of their talents. As a result, managing employee performance is essential, ensuring the workforce hits productivity targets even when short-staffed.

In many cases, managing performance requires a strategic approach. By tracking the right employee metrics, companies often have an easier time staying on top of productivity. If you’re wondering which metrics matter, here are a few worth measuring.

Employee Metrics Worth Measuring

Engagement

When it comes to productivity, employee engagement is a significant factor. Engaged workers are often more efficient and diligent than their counterparts. Additionally, job satisfaction is typically higher among employees who feel engaged at work, making them happier. Since happy workers are less likely to seek out opportunities elsewhere, engagement doesn’t just impact productivity; it affects retention, too.

Overall, monitoring employee engagement is a must for any company. Along with gaining insights about worker sentiment, it helps you identify potential issues before they harm your workplace or culture. It also creates opportunities for action, allowing you to address engagement issues to create a more productive and happier environment.

Well-being

While an engaged workforce is traditionally happier, that doesn’t mean companies should assume that their employees aren’t experiencing any struggles simply because they’re engaged at work. Instead, employers should make an effort to monitor well-being, too.

By making well-being a priority and actively tracking employee sentiment in that arena, companies have a chance to create a more robust culture and a more supportive environment. Plus, they can support the health of their workforce on multiple levels, ensuring employees remain healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Outcomes

While many companies focus on productivity, it’s essential to understand that a hard-working workforce may not generate the results a company is after. For example, inefficient processes may keep employees busy, but they don’t generate the results employers want to see.

Since productivity doesn’t inherently mean exceptional results, companies need to track outcomes along with engagement. By focusing on results instead of effort, businesses can determine if process improvements may be necessary. As a result, it creates opportunities to boost operational efficiency, ensuring that time spent on tasks is genuinely worthwhile.

How to Monitor the Employee Metrics

How your company should monitor the employee metrics above may depend on several factors. For outcomes, you’ll need to choose KPIs that align with your company’s operations and goals. As a result, what needs tracking may vary from one employer to the next.

For engagement and well-being, you’ll usually need a combination of related KPIs and data gathered directly from your workforce. In some cases, anonymous surveys are a solid starting point. However, it’s also wise to discuss both matters with employees, creating a safe space where workers can express their perspectives openly.

Ultimately, you’ll have an easier time monitoring employee sentiment and workforce effectiveness with a multi-faceted approach. If you’d like to learn more about employee metrics worth measuring, the team at The Advance Group wants to hear from you. Contact us today.

Hot Manufacturing Jobs in Toledo Right Now

Manufacturing is one of the largest sectors of Ohio’s economy. The state’s manufacturing gross domestic product was upwards of $112 billion in 2018, according to the Ohio Manufacturer’s Association – that’s third in the country right behind California and Texas. And in 2020, there were an average of 668,000 manufacturing employees in Ohio, earning an average annual compensation of $78,108.

So, the state of Ohio’s manufacturing sector is strong, with plenty of manufacturing jobs in Toledo and other major cities, and a high earning potential. Here’s more good news: There are a variety of job types if you’re considering a career in manufacturing.

Let’s examine some of the most common types of Ohio factory jobs and manufacturing roles. Then, we’ll discuss why you should consider a career in this field and how to get started.

Advance Your Career With These Manufacturing Jobs

There is a reason for the incredible output and profit of Ohio’s manufacturing industry: The hardworking men and women who work in it. Manufacturing job recruiters see it every day in the talented people they place with top employers.

There are a variety of manufacturing jobs in Toledo and Ohio at large to choose from – let’s take a closer look at some of the most common.

Machine Operator

A machine operator does exactly what their title suggests: operates a variety of machinery in industrial settings. But their job duties go far beyond that. Machine operators’ common responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining warehouse equipment and machinery, setting up equipment, performing inspections of equipment, evaluating safety and efficiency, overseeing new or inexperienced machine operators, and more. In addition to mechanical machinery and equipment, many machine operators are also well-versed in operating computer-controlled machinery as well.

From material moving machine operators (forklift drivers) to those who operate machines that manufacture plastic parts, there are a variety of different job types that fall under this term. In 2020, the BLS reported that machine setters, operators, and tenders (different specialties under the machine operator umbrella) earned a mean annual income of $45,110 per year. And with only a 2% decline predicted over the decade, this area of Ohio’s manufacturing sector will remain strong.

Quality Control Inspector

A quality control inspector ensures that the products and services made on the production line meet certain standards of quality. Their job is to inspect raw materials, semi-finished goods, or finished products and note any defects or problems that might affect quality. If defects are found, a quality control inspector stops production until the issue is fixed. They may also be tasked with evaluating the processes that create products and implementing a plan to improve the process moving forward.

In 2020, the median annual wage for quality control inspectors was $40,460. However, quality control inspectors can make more depending on experience and skills. According to CareerExplorer.com, the average salary for quality control inspectors in Ohio is around $51,970 a year, and some quality control inspectors can earn up to $75,000 a year or more. So, while this field is expected to decline over the next decade overall, the quality control inspector position in Ohio is expected to remain robust – like most Ohio factory jobs.

Warehouse Worker

Warehouse workers facilitate the delivery of products to businesses and customers. They work as a part of a larger team to coordinate operations, accept orders and enter them into the warehouse database, and keep track of product inventory. Some warehouse workers operate picking and lifting machines to access bins or pallets. Other warehouse worker duties include things like:

· Ensuring that products or merchandise is safely packed and labeled for shipping

· Collecting products from the distribution center and transporting them to the shipping bay

· Scanning labels to ensure products are shipped to the right destination

· Receiving products or merchandise for delivery or return

· Identifying missing, lost, or damaged materials and notifying a supervisor

· Assisting with the training of new employees

Warehouse jobs often require a high school diploma or equivalent, and prior experience working in a warehouse is often preferred. The BLS lists the median annual wage at just over $30,000 in 2020, and the field is expected to grow by 7 percent between 2020 and 2030, with more than 900,000 openings projected each year over the decade.

Production Worker

Production workers work on assembly lines in factories and warehouses, as well as in other industrial settings. They are the backbone of the workforce at these establishments – they are the people on the factory floor responsible for the actual production of goods.

Production workers’ duties will vary depending on the job itself, the product produced, the industry, and other factors. But generally speaking, production workers maintain and operate production equipment, help with shipping and distribution, monitor stock levels, evaluate machinery problems and safety standards, and report any defective machinery or equipment to supervisors. They’re also sometimes responsible for performing basic quality checks, like testing products or making sure packaging is adequate before shipping. However, note that the quality control inspector is usually the person ultimately responsible for this.

Production workers only need a high school diploma or equivalent to get started in the field, and they can quickly gain experience and skills from there. In 2020, the BLS listed the mean pay for production assemblers and fabricators at $34, 970 a year. And this field is predicted to experience little or no change between 2020 and 2030, only losing about 39,000 jobs nationwide.

Forklift Operator

Another one of the most common and popular manufacturing jobs in Toledo is the forklift operator. Forklift operators work in warehouses, on construction sites, and in other industrial environments and use forklifts to move materials from one location to another. Typical duties include loading and unloading, storing, shipping, and receiving of products and materials, as well as stacking, packaging, banding, shrink-wrapping, and labeling products and materials. Forklift operators also need to be safety experts and be well-versed in the safe and efficient operation of forklift machinery. In fact, forklift operators must be properly certified with a forklift license before they can start work.

The BLS lists the median annual wage for forklift operators at $37,450 in 2020. The field is expected to grow at a 7 percent rate over the decade, with more than 84,000 job openings appearing each year.

Reasons to Consider a Career in Manufacturing

There are plenty of great Ohio factory jobs out there. So, why should you consider a career in the world of manufacturing?

Abundance of Entry-Level Jobs

Most manufacturing jobs require a high school diploma or equivalent, but not college degrees or other advanced educational certifications. That means the barrier to entry is low, and there are a lot of entry-level jobs to choose from. Many manufacturing employers are willing to train candidates on the job, and many don’t require any previous work experience. Simply put, it’s easy to break into the manufacturing field and get on-the-job training to launch your career, even without higher education.

Lots of Advancement Opportunities

Although your career in manufacturing might start out at an entry level, you don’t have to stay there. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement in the world of manufacturing. And because so many companies are willing to train on the job and promote internally, you have a good chance of advancing in your manufacturing career in a relatively short time frame. CNC operators, for example, can get more training and become CNC programmers; warehouse workers can become warehouse managers. There are all sorts of avenues for growth and advancement if you’re willing to put in the time and effort.

Results of your Work are Tangible

Another great thing about the manufacturing sector is one that many don’t consider right away: the fact that you can see and feel the tangible results of your hard work. You come away from every shift having completed something, and you know precisely how your work matters and how it fits in to the larger picture. You can look at a physical object and say, “I helped make that.” That kind of satisfaction isn’t something you can get in every job or career path.

Does a 9-5 Job Work for You?

The classic Monday through Friday, 9-to-5 job (or 8-to-5, as the case often is) is the perfect fit for many people. However, that doesn’t mean it’s the best schedule for everyone. Some people are far more productive if they can sleep later and work through the afternoon and into the evening or night. Others flourish after dark.

In some cases, a 9-to-5 job is a bad fit because of personal or educational obligations. For example, a parent may need to care for a child during the day until another family member is available to take over. Similarly, a student might not be available during class hours, which more commonly occurs during the day.

Regardless of the reason, the fact remains that 9-to-5 isn’t universally the best fit. Instead, professionals may have a slew of justifications for needing something different. If you’re in that group, you may worry that finding a great opportunity isn’t possible. Fortunately, with help from The Advance Group, it’s far easier than you’d expect.

Non-9-to-5 Job Opportunities Through The Advance Group

At the Advance Group, our recruitment team fills a range of positions. Along with traditional Monday through Friday, 9-to-5 roles, we help companies find excellent candidates for other shifts.

One of the most widely available alternatives is a second or swing shift. Typically, these jobs begin near midday or in the early afternoon, carrying through until the late evening or early nighttime hours. That can make them a perfect option for those who need a job outside of school hours or are simply at their best later in the day.

Another option that some professionals prefer is a third or night shift. The workday usually begins after dark with these positions, typically in the late evening or early nighttime. Then, they last into the morning hours of the next day. Along with being a solid choice for most productive at night, they can work well for those who need to rotate childcare or other similar responsibilities with another household member.

Along with alternative schedules, The Advance Group has job openings that aren’t traditional Monday through Friday roles. Weekend shifts are one example, as some companies have workweeks that include Saturday, Sunday, or both.

However, this can also include compressed workweeks. For example, you may find jobs that use four 10-hour days instead of five eight-hour days, allowing you to work fewer days while still getting full-time hours. You may get a set schedule, such as Monday through Thursday every week, or the company may use a rotating approach, such as having all employees do four days on followed by four days off.

Ultimately, The Advance Group has plenty of opportunities for professionals looking for something other than a classic 9-to-5 job. If you’re looking for an alternative schedule, the team at The Advance Group wants to hear from you. Contact us to speak with one of our recruiters and learn more about today’s current job openings.

Upskilling: What Your Workplace Needs to Know

For many companies, skill gaps are holding the organization back. Without the right capabilities, teams may struggle to work efficiently. In some cases, certain operational choices may end up off the table, all because there isn’t an employee to support that strategy available.

Thankfully, there is a solution to skill gaps: upskilling. By embracing upskilling, companies have the ability to close gaps internally. Plus, there are benefits beyond enhancing the capabilities of your workforce, making it an even more worthwhile venture.

If you’re curious about the world of upskilling, here’s what your workplace needs to know.

The Benefits of Upskilling

Upskilling your workforce provides multiple benefits. The clearest is usually enhancing the capabilities of your teams. By giving them new skills, they’ll be able to use emerging technologies or take on additional responsibilities with greater ease, making them more efficient and productive.

However, upskilling can also do more. If your main reason for filling a role was to secure a specific skill, that might become unnecessary. Along with saving recruitment costs, you’ll have one fewer employee on your payroll, leading to a reduction in workforce-related expenses.

Plus, upskilling boosts loyalty. Your best and brightest often crave challenges and favor workplaces that support their development. By offering upskilling opportunities, you’re addressing both needs. As a result, they’ll be less inclined to look for jobs elsewhere, all because they’re satisfied in their current role.

How to Start Upskilling

Upskilling isn’t something you should approach haphazardly. Instead, it’s best to be strategic, ensuring your training dollars are focused on the proper areas.

Typically, the first step you’ll need to take is analyzing the capabilities of your workforce. This includes examining what teams can do today and exploring the skills employees possess that may fall outside of their current role.

Often, workers have capabilities that they aren’t using today, making them a potential resource for cross-training into different departments or guiding employees in those niches. By looking at their original applications, you may find someone actually has the skill you need; you just weren’t aware.

After you’ve done the analysis, it’s time to identify the skills you need to target. In many cases, you’ll want to start either by researching upcoming projects or examining efficiency upgrades that require new skills. That way, you can have employees participate in training that will provide the earliest benefit to the organization.

How you introduce those skills may depend on your available resources. As mentioned above, cross-training can be a viable option if a capability is present but underrepresented in your workplace. It’s functional and cost-effective.

However, formal training is a solid alternative. A cloud-based learning management system (LMS) is an excellent choice in many cases. You can add modules to cover any skill area, making them accessible through any internet-connected device at any time.

Formal courses can also work in most cases. While they’re harder to coordinate and may cost more, they give employees access to an instructor. If a topic is complex, that may be preferred, ensuring they can turn to an expert if the need arises.

Ultimately, upskilling is critical in today’s landscape. If you’d like to learn more, the staff at The Advance Group wants to hear from you. Contact us today.

Three Skills That Immediately Set You Apart from Other Candidates

When searching for a new job, finding ways to stand out from other candidates is essential. One of the preferred ways is to highlight skills that provide value to the employer that isn’t overly commonplace. Often, that can set you apart with ease, particularly if you have all of the technical capabilities required to thrive in the role.

Which skills are best for this can vary depending on the exact nature of the job. However, some are universally desirable, making them excellent places to start. If you’re looking to set yourself apart from the pack, here are three skills that immediately help you stand out for all of the right reasons.

1. Adaptability

If one thing is sure, it’s that change is inevitable. The pandemic was an extreme example of how a situation can turn without much notice. However, frequent shifts in priorities are simply part of the paradigm for many roles. Additionally, a slew of positions requires employees to think on their feet, ensuring they can adjust their approaches to fit the unique needs of customers or clients as needed.

Since change is a big part of many jobs, hiring managers look for adaptability. Suppose you can show during your interview that you’re particularly agile, allowing you to shift your approach strategically or adjust to changing priorities quickly. In that case, you’ll have no issue setting yourself apart from the competition.

2. Self-Awareness

Most workplaces are team environments where professionals are responsible for individual contributions to broader team objectives. Being able to work well with others is, of course, essential. However, if an employee is going to do that exceptionally well, a degree of self-awareness is a must.

Self-awareness ensures that a person can understand how their actions impact others, leading them to choose more conducive approaches to teamwork. Often, they’re inherently more accountable. Plus, they’re aware of their weaknesses, increasing the odds that they’ll work to improve them.

By demonstrating your self-awareness, you position yourself as a strong candidate. You’ll come across as authentic and team-oriented, as well as accountable.

3. Trainability

When hiring managers bring in a new employee, they want someone who can quickly learn the company’s processes. That’s where trainability comes into play.

Along with a willingness to learn, candidate can adapt their approaches and behaviors if they’re highly trainable. They aren’t stuck in their ways or slow to pick up new things, allowing them to reach total productivity in a new environment faster.

Ideally, you want to showcase your trainability during the hiring process. That ensures the hiring manager knows you can learn what’s necessary to thrive in that workplace, turning you into a standout candidate.

Ultimately, the three skills above can immediately set you apart from other job seekers. If you’d like to learn more, the team at The Advance Group wants to hear from you. Contact us today.
