Feeling Unhappy at Work? Read These Tips!
Are you starting to think that the honeymoon is over at your new job? This is a natural experience that generally happens somewhere between the first few exciting weeks on the job and before the first six months. In fact, most people leave a job within the first three-to-six months due to a variety of factors, one of them being dissatisfaction with the job itself.
Before you choose to move on from this job, read these tips to uncover what’s making you unhappy and if there is anything you can do to salvage things.
Get to know someone new.
Even if your job seems new-ish still, you may be suffering from a case of being lonely as the new person at the office. Take initiative and reach out to a co-worker and invite them to lunch. This is something you can easily do to expand your horizons and get to know others. Over time, you will find these new work friendships are something to look forward to, and the job just settles into a comfortable routine.
Ask for new projects.
People often get unhappy about their work out of sheer boredom with current projects and tasks. It’s important to stay challenged, therefore it’s up to you to ask your supervisor for new projects and responsibilities. Find things that match your interests and skills. Having meaningful work makes all the difference.
Decorate your space.
Make your office environment seem friendlier by bringing in some family photos, a desk organizer set, a few plants, a small lamp, and some art. This alone can brighten your mood and make you feel more at home.
Check your attitude.
If you still feel unhappy once you take the above steps, it could just be that you are in a funk lately. Take note of your feelings about work and decide if you are just experiencing a negative period in your life, or if there are real job factors causing your unhappiness. Talk to your boss about this and see if you can get some support.
If you are in a job rut and still feeling unhappy at work, contact the staffing experts at Advance Staffing Solutions. We can help you find a great new career today!
June is Safety Awareness Month!
June- Safety Awareness Month
Ohio joined the majority of other states to ban texting while driving. Distracted driving is considered to be any activity that diverts the driver’s attention away from their primary task of driving. All distractions endanger the driver, passengers, other drivers, and bystander safety. Of all the possible distractions texting is by far the worst, because it requires the driver to divert their visual, manual, and cognitive attention away from the road. In fact a typical text message requires the driver to divert their attention from the road for over 4 seconds during which time the car would travel the length of a football field at 55 mph. When is it really safe to take your eyes off the road for that amount of time while driving? NEVER!
Under the new law — Drivers under the age of 18 are prohibited from texting or using any electronic device while driving and will be treated as a primary offense. Those over the age of 18 are allowed to talk on their cell phone (for now), however texting is prohibited and is a secondary offense. The law does allow for exceptions in case of emergency or if the car is stopped and off the road. Hands-free phones and GPS devices are allowed as long as they are not operated while driving. A possible fine for the first offense can
be up to $150 and license suspension for 60 days. Second offense penalties include a fine up to $300 and license suspension for up to 1 year.

Does New Technology Change the Way We Work?
There is one thing that is constant and that is change. It is no different in the workplace. As new technologies emerge, new ways of working also arrived. In the last few years, the workplace has changed dramatically. More people than ever before work from home, at least part of the time. Mobile technology has enabled teams to collaborate from around the world. E-learning technologies have helped more professionals to develop their skills on the job than ever before.
So what’s in store for the next few years? Let’s take a look at a few ways that technology has changed the way we work.
Changes in the way companies hire people.
Thanks to technology, we have begun starting to look at people not just by a paper resume, but by the brand image that they create for themselves. This brand exists on social networks. This is very critical for certain positions for companies as they will continue to measure a person’s value by their online influence. Companies are also turning more and more to technology tools to screen and assess candidates long before they even bring them in for interviews.
Changes to the methods people use to collaborate.
Meetings are simply not just meetings anymore. No longer are people stuck in stuffy conference rooms together. Instead, technology has enabled teams to collaborate and meet with each other virtually using a variety of methods. From webinars to teleseminars, people are able to connect on demand which enables companies to make quicker decisions and make more use of meeting time.
Changes to the way people prioritize work vs. personal time.
The millennial generation, which now encompasses the largest portion of the workforce, is leading the way towards more work-life balance. By tapping into technology tools, millennials are able to transform the workplace from former workaholic zones to productivity areas. They value their personal time above work time, therefore when they are at work, millennials are more apt to get things done.
Changes to the ways we work with customers.
Additionally, companies are better able to handle the challenges of working with clients by using technology. For example, many companies have now turned to social media and live messaging technology in order to quickly and effectively address customer concerns publicly. Social media is also used by many companies to foster positive client relationships and create brand loyalists.
As you can see, technology has changed many things about work as we know it and will continue to do so long into the future. Want to know how technology could help in your workforce? Contact Advance Staffing Solutions today!

It’s OK to Be the Boss Everyone Likes!
Years ago, people didn’t really like their boss. In fact, they would express fear when asked about their relationship with their immediate supervisor. Bosses were secretive, conniving, and not to be messed with. Then came a new wave of bosses. These were the folks who wanted to be your friend. But they had a method to their madness. They wanted to get close to you so they could find out what motivated you so they could squeeze more work out of you. Again, it wasn’t a very positive relationship between bosses and employees.
If you are facing the very real possibility that you are going to be someone’s boss, don’t get too caught up in the past. You have the chance to be the boss you’ve always dreamt about — and yes you can be the boss everyone likes.
Here’s how:
Be Understanding
There’s nothing worse than working for someone who is inflexible or unrealistic. Be a better boss by being flexible and understanding of your employees. This is particularly important as millennial employees tend to put more emphasis on work-life balance then on becoming workaholics.
Learn to Communicate
A great boss is someone who is skilled at communicating with all different types of people. Communication skills can be learned over time and practice. Always have an open door communication policy with your employees. Learn to demonstrate compassion and also become a good listener when dealing with your employees.
Build Positive Relationships
You don’t have to be everyone’s best friend in order to be a good manager. However, you do need to be someone that others can respect and relate to. Take the time to get to know your subordinates and develop positive relationships with each person. Find out what motivates them and what their career goals are. Be an encouraging source of support to help people reach their full potential.
Recognize Your Team
Bosses who recognized the unique value in every individual are well on their way to being the boss that everyone admires. Evaluate your employees and identify their strengths as part of your team. Give regular praise and recognize the effort of your employees. Provide meaningful projects that honor the strengths of employees.
Set Reasonable Expectations
A good boss will recognize the human side of the business. They understand that each individual has specific talents, but that there are also certain limitations. When conducting performance reviews other employees, remember that the goals that you set must be reasonable and attainable within a certain amount of time. So too, the support and resources must be available. Don’t set unrealistic demands on people. Remember what it felt like to be put in this position by a previous supervisor.
Industrial Sewer
Advance Staffing Solutions has partnered with a Toledo area printing and promotional products company in their search for an experienced Industrial Sewer to operate their Embroidery Machine. Previous embroidery experience is a plus but not required. Company is willing the train the right candidate. Previous industrial sewing experience is preferred. This is a first shift position working 8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday with occasional over-time. Starting pay will be $11/hour. Email resumes to andrea@advancestaffingsolutions.com or call the office 419-882-7646.
